Sorry about the slow-down in my productivity, you guys. College is in full swing, and it's hard to get the computer to myself to share the random doodlings I've done (of course I'm working on a little two-pager "Legal Alien" gag comic at the same time, when I have the time). But for now, have some Roger Rabbit.
Aw man, this was a big film for me growing up. It was the first time I saw a gun kill someone on the screen, and I was traumatized for a very long time from R.K. Maroon's murder scene. Anyway that's not important. What is important are these characters and actors.
For a very long time I had no idea Bob Hoskins (Eddie Valiant) was a Brit! He did such a good 30s accent. And his face is so expressive and interesting, the way he curls his lips back in anger is a fun challenge to draw. (I say "fun" after the fact- I had a devil of a time getting the hang of Mr. Hoskin's face).
And of course, Christopher Lloyd When he plays 'em nasty, he goes all out. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who still feels fear grip them when Judge Doom reveals himself as the maniac murdering toon. Good LORD man. (But boy can that man pull off wearing all-black vintage wear. He looked superb in that fluttering cape and coat and skull sword-cane rrarrr. )
I actually was the most uneasy about drawing Roger Rabbit. I don't draw in the toony style as much as I used to, since the human face and body is so complex and I learn the more I draw them. But he seemed to click for me, right away. In fact drawing his actor Charles Fleischer was the hard part! And he really did insist on dressing like Roger while he was in-character on the set for the live-acting pass.
If you haven't seen this movie, by golly you won't regret seeing it. It has my blessing forever. So fantastic, so funny, and even more interesting, it's pretty much the predecessor for all motion capture animation film techniques that we see in "Lord of the Rings" and "Tintin" and "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and hundreds of video games.
Awesome drawing! It is the best art with Judge Doom i ever seen.
And here is one interesting thing - if person likes some character, he draws him or her perfectly. Either it is person, who understands character realy good, or character who helps person. I tend to think, the last.
I love your style <333

Ah I very much agree. The more I study characters, the better I get at drawing and developing characters of my own.
